The Madden video game series has become a part of the cultural zeitgeist in the NFL.

A game that was inspired by John Madden’s namesake has become a yearly tradition, one that is celebrated by players and fans alike.

EA Sports and Madden have teamed up throughout the years to create unique experiences for players, which includes the induction into their prestigious “99 Club.”

This club is special, and only a few players each year are given a 99 rating at the beginning of the season, the highest rating the game allows.

While not every player has an opportunity to be a 99 overall, they can certainly be a 99 in certain categories, such as catching ability, arm strength, and everyone’s favorite, speed.

Many NFL players who are involved with Madden like to check their speed score in the game to see how accurately the video game portrays them.

Some are surprised by their ratings, while others like Xavier Worthy of the Kansas City Chiefs, are less than enthused by them.

According to Worthy’s Instagram via Football Forever on Twitter, he is seemingly boycotting the game after seeing his 98-speed rating.

Worthy, of course, broke the NFL combine’s record for the best 40-yard dash in history, but was denied a 99 rank in the speed category.

Whether Worthy will boycott the game remains to be seen, but for the time being, he is frustrated with the company.

Will EA Sports and Madden hear Worthy’s frustrations and make up for their injustice?
