Chris Bosh was a major part of the Toronto Raptors for years and did great things for the team.
But he ultimately wanted more for his NBA career and chose to leave Toronto and head to the Miami Heat.
Speaking with Spurs Report on X, Bosh opened up about why he left the Raptors.
He was influenced by Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs and wanted to be a mainstay in the NBA Finals.
“I wanted to be in the playoffs and play in the Finals like Tim and Kobe. I didn’t want to go home early. I wanted to play,” Bosh said.
Chris Bosh tells us that Tim Duncan was one of the biggest reasons he left Toronto in the summer of 2010 to join the Heat as a free agent to form the ‘Big Three’ with LeBron and Dwyane Wade. “I wanted to be in the playoff and play in the finals like Tim and Kobe. Bosh spent seven seasons with the Raptors, averaging 20.2 points and 9.4 rebounds during that time.
He earned multiple All-Star spots during that time and was celebrated as one of the best players in the league.
Many Raptors fans were disappointed when he elected to head down to the Miami Heat, but his explanation of why makes a lot of sense.
If reaching the Finals was what he wanted, Bosh was very wise to sign with the Heat.
They became the most dominant team in the East and earned back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013.
He made the move to have a career like Duncan and then ended up playing against him for a championship.
Bosh was still playing incredibly well with the Heat for six seasons but was forced to step away from the NBA because of a health issue.
If he would have stayed in the league, who knows how much more success the Heat could have had?
Some Raptors fans will criticize Bosh for leaving the Raptors but it ended up being the right move for his career and his legacy.
