Victor Wembanyama is a generational and unique talent, and it shouldn’t take long before he wins multiple awards.
He’s currently the clear-cut favorite to win Rookie of the Year, but it might not be the only trophy he takes home this season.
Despite his team’s subpar record and evident struggles, he’s currently one of the frontrunners for Defensive Player of the Year.
That’s why, in the latest edition of First Things First, FOX analyst Chris Broussard explained why he should win the award.

Granted, the Spurs were far from good, but this is an individual award, and his impact on the defensive end was unmatched around the league.
As pointed out by Broussard, the Spurs’ defense was six-points better with him on the court, going from one of the worst in the game to almost entering the top five.
Rudy Gobert and Anthony Davis, the other top-three candidates, didn’t make up for even one single point in terms of difference, with Broussard also arguing that their teams have solid defenders who could make up for their absences.
He also pointed out that Wembanyama had the most stocks (steals + blocks) of any player this century, as well as the first 10-block game of the past three years, and more games with 7+ blocks than the other top-five shot-blockers in the game combined.
Wembanyama was the most disruptive defensive player in the game by a significant margin, and even if Gobert might end up beating him for the award, he should have plenty of opportunities to win this distinction in the future.
