With the 2023-24 NBA regular season coming to an end, star players around the league have made their cases for the NBA awards that will be handed out, like MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and Rookie of the Year.
Although some of these awards have a runaway favorite like NBA Rookie of the Year, with Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs clearly being the best first-year player in the league this season, MVP is a bit tricky, even though Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets is likely to win the award for a third time.
Before Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers went down earlier in the regular season with a knee injury that required surgery, a case could be made that he was well on his way to winning back-to-back MVPs, but now the narrative has changed.
Jokic has the Nuggets playing at a very high level once again while being arguably the team to beat in the Western Conference, which has made some believe he’ll win the award with ease, but now Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks has really come on strong in the final stretch of the season.
Doncic has been so impressive lately that Chris Broussard of FOX Sports believes he should win his first MVP this year, via “First Things First.”

With Jokic being the best player on arguably the best team in the league and the Nuggets potentially on the verge of clinching the top seed in the West, the superstar center will likely win the regular-season award.
However, during his hot streak, Doncic may have turned enough heads to make a solid case for being this season’s MVP.
