Christian McCaffrey hasn’t even been a member of the San Francisco 49ers for a full season yet, and despite this, he’s still found a way to insert his name into the team’s all-time record book.
Against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, McCaffrey had the chance to set the 49ers’ all-time record for consecutive games with a touchdown, which has been held by Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice.
Well, all it took for McCaffrey to break Rice’s record was just a single San Francisco offensive drive, as the running back found the end zone for six points on the 49ers’ opening drive on Sunday.

McCaffrey only needed to score one touchdown against Arizona this week to break Rice’s record, but the veteran running back continued to make trips to the end zone after his touchdown on the opening drive.
The 49ers wound up winning the game by a final score of 35-16, thanks in part to McCaffrey rushing for 106 yards and three touchdowns in addition to catching seven passes for 71 yards and another score.
If San Francisco was only allowed to count the points that were scored by their top running back on Sunday, they still would have defeated the Cardinals by eight points.
With the victory, the 49ers improved their 2023 record to 4-0, and they look like one of the most dominant teams in the NFL through the first four weeks of the season.
San Francisco maintaining their success throughout an entire season usually depends on the health of their roster, so if most of their top players can avoid serious injuries this year, then they should be among the top contenders for a championship.
