After a forgettable stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, which resulted in the storied NBA franchise trading him to the Utah Jazz, Danny Ainge and company promptly bought out future Hall of Famer Russell Westbrook, making him a free agent.

As a result of Westbrook becoming a free agent, the superstar guard actually ended up staying up in his hometown, as he was able to secure a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers to join forces with Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and eventually James Harden.

It seemed as though Westbrook was able to resurrect his playing career with the Clippers, as head coach Tyronn Lue convinced him to be the team’s sixth man and give the squad a much-needed boost off the bench in Los Angeles.

Despite seemingly being a good fit at this point in his career, the Clippers are ready to part ways with the former NBA MVP, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic via Legion Hoops.

At one point, it seemed as though Westbrook would retire with the Oklahoma City Thunder, as the team’s fans loved the way he played the game and revered him as the face of the franchise in the small market.

However, ever since Westbrook was traded to the Houston Rockets a few years ago, the veteran guard’s once highly touted career has gone in a downward spiral as he bounced from team to team on an annual basis.

Westbrook has played for four teams since being traded by the Thunder and will end up on a fifth this year if another team decides to sign him, which could be the Denver Nuggets if the rumors turn out to be true about their interest in the 35-year-old.
