After a forgettable stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, the outlook for Russell Westbrook’s career in the NBA looked bleak, as he had likely signed his last lucrative long-term contract and may have to resort to one-year deals for the rest of the way.
Although Westbrook’s legacy is already set as he is without a doubt a first-ballot Hall of Famer and one of the best guards the league has ever seen, his time with the Lakers really did him no favors, as it was uncertain which team would be willing to take a chance on him after he was traded to the Utah Jazz and bought out.
Ironically enough, Westbrook never had to leave his hometown as the Los Angeles Clippers were willing to bring him in for what was left of the regular season and the playoffs to follow.
Fortunately for Westbrook, he was able to resurrect his playing career with the Clippers, as he fit in seamlessly and showed flashes of his old form, which led to the team re-signing him in the summer.
According to Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue, who spoke with NBA insider Marc Stein and Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, Westbrook took less money to remain with the Clippers, via Legion Hoops.

It seems as though Westbrook is content with the money he’s made during his career in the league and is much more interested in winning, as he must like his role on the Clippers and the team’s chances of competing moving forward.
It’ll be interesting to see if Westbrook can continue playing at a high level in Los Angeles, especially if the team can trade for James Harden, which might complicate things.
