Robert Covington of the Los Angeles Clippers didn’t have the sort of 2022-23 that he wanted.
The big man only played 16.2 minutes, the lowest since his rookie year.
He also only averaged 6 points and 3.5 rebounds.
It seems clear that Clippers head coach Ty Lue didn’t know how he wanted to use Covington during his first full season in LA.
Covington and Lue need to have a conversation about the player’s future with the team.
But that hasn’t happened.
Speaking to Law Murray of The Athletic, via Legion hoops, Covington said that he hasn’t talked to Lue since the season ended – and doesn’t have any plans to.
“If it do, it do. If it don’t, I won’t dwell on it,” Covington said of talking with Lue in the offseason.

Covington also went on to say that he didn’t learn anything from last season but admitted that it didn’t go as he had expected.
“I just wash it away and start over, a new year,” Covington said of his plans.
That’s a good idea for the entire Clippers team.
Last season began with incredibly high hopes, as Kawhi Leonard was supposed to be back alongside Paul George and newcomer John Wall.
Bright things were ahead for the Clippers, fans said.
But in the end, they again didn’t make it far in the postseason, and, again, both Leonard and George were injured.
Meanwhile, newcomers like Covington and Wall didn’t have the breakout seasons that fans wanted.
To his credit, Covington’s lack of production really did have everything to do with Lue and his inability to figure out how he wanted to use the big man.
Covington was ready to play and do everything he could to help the team, but Lue elected to not use him.
Clippers fans are hoping the two are able to actually talk through this.
Otherwise, they could miss an opportunity to really help the team.
