The most consistently successful teams in the NFL often require that the front office, owner and head coach are always on the same page.
FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd recently pointed out one team that he believes doesn’t have that necessary continuity and said there is a clear disconnect between the owner and the general manager.
The New York Giants opened themselves up for criticism this offseason by becoming the first team to participate in HBO’s “Hard Knocks” during the offseason, as opposed to during the season, and Cowherd weighed in after a recent episode.
“There is a disconnect between owner and GM and I’m uncomfortable watching it,” he said.

A clip from a recent “Hard Knocks” episode showed Giants owner John Mara warning GM Joe Schoen to re-sign running back Saquon Barkley this offseason.
Cowherd pointed out the red flags, including the body language of those in the room and Mara being clearly uncomfortable with Barkley signing with the rival Philadelphia Eagles instead, creating an uncomfortable situation for all involved.
Barkley has been the most pivotal part of the Giants offense since being chosen No. 2 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, but the HBO program revealed that the team was never really close to bringing Barkley back.
Whether letting Barkley go turns out to be the right move remains to be seen, but Cowherd has a point that it’s uncomfortable that Schoen didn’t have more answers for Mara during their interaction.
The Giants had a rough season last year and now have to find a way to patch things together without Barkley in the mix.
