The Denver Broncos are searching for a new quarterback after they released veteran Russell Wilson this offseason after two disappointing seasons.

There are plenty of quality prospects in next week’s draft that Sean Payton and co. could try and select.

On Friday, Colin Cowherd had his take on what the Broncos’ strategy will be when looking for their next signal-caller.

Here is what he had to say:

“My take is that Sean (Payton) is going to go sort of revert back to, after a difficult first year, what worked in New Orleans. Well, what turned it all around was Drew Brees. The one quarterback in this class that feels like Drew Brees to me is Bo Nix. A little shorter than you’d like. Not a gun, not a howitzer of an arm. A lot of college starts. Super productive. Won a lot of games. Super dedicated and moves better than people think,” Cowherd said, per “The Herd.”

Nix is one of the most experienced quarterbacks and overall prospects in this draft.

The All-Pac-12 performer had a career record of 43-18 while playing for both Auburn and Oregon.

The 24-year-old started in a whopping 61 career games at the college level (NCAA record) and holds the single-season NCAA record for best completion percentage, which he set last season at Oregon (77.4%).

Drew Brees started three years at Purdue before getting drafted by the Chargers in 2001, which set the stage for him to be traded to New Orleans in 2006 and help bring a Super Bowl to the Saints.

If Payton and the Broncos want to follow that blueprint, it could be a wise call.

Whether or not they stay put at the No. 12 pick will be a very interesting situation on its own.
