The New York Jets watched their highly-anticipated 2023 season crumple into a heap on the field after only four offensive plays when Aaron Rodgers went down with a torn Achilles last September.
Their hopes for a surge to greatness again hinge on the veteran quarterback, but he skipped the team’s mandatory two-day minicamp.
This did not sit well with many, and explanations for Rodgers’ absence abound.
Commentator Colin Cowherd voiced his strong opinion on the impact of Rodgers sitting out the team exercise, an act that embattled head coach Robert Saleh categorized as unexcused.
Cowherd declared, “This is absolute vindication for what they [Packers] went through…They are just smirking and laughing at the Jets.”
“This is absolute validation for what they [Packers] went through… They are just smirking and laughing at the Jets.”

Cowherd said that while many may downplay Rodgers’ missing minicamp as “no big deal,” the quarterback made a choice that could ultimately be detrimental to the team.
The Jets, he explained, enter the new campaign with a new offensive line, new receivers and many moving parts.
Cowherd speculated that Rodgers went on vacation during a critical time as the team prepares to try to return to relevance.
The long-time Packer came to New York in last year’s offseason after 18 seasons in Green Bay.
He is expected to be fully recovered from the 2023 surgery and ready to lead the Jets this fall, but the 40-year-old’s absence from the mandatory team function was undoubtedly noted by veterans.
A few wins to start the season and all will be forgiven, no question about it.
But, for now, Cowherd and others question the wisdom of letting something personal interfere with a long-scheduled team session.
