Colin Cowherd Has Discouraging Message For Saquon Barkley

The NFL is full of very talented running backs that are true difference-makers on offense.

Having an elite running back is a luxury for many offenses.

Back in the day, running backs were the most important part of an offense.

But that is no longer the case.

Many running backs are seen as replaceable.

Also, their bodies tend to break down a lot faster than other players.

This is part of the reason why teams are hesitant to pay them big money.

We have seen three elite running backs all receive the franchise tag this offseason.

Meaning they will have to play next season on a one-year deal.

Those players are Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, and Tony Pollard.

Colin Cowherd discussed how Barkley “rolled the dice” by declining a $11 million per year deal.

Now he is stuck playing on the franchise tag.

“Running backs are everywhere. The Chiefs found a guy in the 7th round.”

Cowherd also mentioned how you can find running backs everywhere in the league.

Many of the top running backs were not picked in the first round.

You can find starting-caliber running backs on day two or three of the NFL Draft.

So many teams are not going to give their running back a long-term deal if he can be replaced with a cheaper player.

It will be interesting to see if Barkley and these other running backs choose to hold out.

We have seen it countless times when a running back holds out of training camp because of his contract situation.

Even though it does not seem fair, the running back position is no longer valued by NFL teams.
