Every NFL season, it happens: A handful of coaches get fired when their teams underachieve, whether they deserve to get fired or not.
Sometimes, people can see these firings coming from a mile away, and sometimes they come out of left field.
On Tuesday, sports commentator Colin Cowherd made five bold predictions for the 2024 NFL season, and he predicted that Dennis Allen of the New Orleans Saints will be the first head coach to be fired, and that the Saints will miss the playoffs again.

Cowherd’s argument is that the Saints have a difficult schedule over the first six weeks of the season, and he also said the Atlanta Falcons and even the Carolina Panthers clearly have better rosters than the Saints.
Last season, many were picking New Orleans to finish first in the NFC South, especially after they acquired four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr.
But they fell just short of that mark, going 9-8 and missing the playoffs despite ranking in the top 10 in points scored and allowed.
While they have a solid wide receiver in Chris Olave, as well as a new pass rusher in Chase Young, they have some question marks elsewhere.
Alvin Kamara, their star running back, has been absent from training camp, and while Allen has said it’s because he has back tightness, he is also reportedly unhappy with his contract.
The Saints’ chances of making the playoffs in 2024 have also diminished because of the Falcons’ acquisitions of linebacker Matthew Judon and safety Justin Simmons, who together have six Pro Bowl selections in 16 seasons.
While the Panthers had the league’s worst record in 2023, they still have a potential future star QB in Bryce Young, plus a pair of capable wide receivers in Adam Thielen and newcomer Diontae Johnson.
