After a disastrous 2022 season, the Denver Broncos have hope that they will turn things around thanks to the arrival of new head coach Sean Payton.

He had plenty of success as the longtime head coach of the New Orleans Saints, and with star quarterback Drew Brees by his side, he guided some of the NFL’s best offenses while winning the Super Bowl in the 2009 season.

But Payton is now in a bit of hot water after he made some harsh comments about Nathaniel Hackett, who was Denver’s head coach last season.

Colin Cowherd gave his thoughts on what Payton said.

“It’s Pulp Fiction. They’ve got a mess on their hands and they called in The Wolf.”

Cowherd said he loved how Payton pulled no punches in diagnosing exactly what happened in Denver last fall, and perhaps that’s what the organization needs after one of the biggest disasters in league history.

They had traded for future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Russell Wilson last offseason, leading many to tag them as legitimate Super Bowl contenders, but instead, they ended up with one of the worst offenses anyone can ever remember seeing.

There were also plenty of miscues and unforced errors, such as the late-game fiasco in Week 1 in which the Broncos let the clock run down instead of calling a timeout or lining up to snap the ball with the contest on the line.

Wilson had perhaps the worst season of his career, but Payton believes he still has lots left in his tank and will bounce back in strong fashion this season.

Perhaps Denver won’t reach the Super Bowl, but at least the ingredients are in place for a return to respectability.
