The San Francisco 49ers are expected to be one of the best teams in the NFC coming into the 2023 NFL season, with a rock-solid defense led by reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa and an offense stacked from top to bottom with up-and-comer Brock Purdy leading the way under center.

Although there’s been a lot of talk about what the team should do with quarterback Trey Lance as he hasn’t been given much of a shot to compete for the starting job, it seems the decision has been made to stick with Purdy with the progress just not being there for Lance.

Ironically enough, Lance may end up being the third quarterback on the depth chart in San Francisco, with veteran newcomer Sam Darnold playing well during the preseason thus far.

Colin Cowherd spoke on “The Herd” about the quarterback situation for the 49ers and how Lance won’t cut it for San Francisco and might have to play elsewhere to get an opportunity.

“It could be somewhere. It’s just not here for this team on a Super Bowl roster.”

Currently, it doesn’t seem as though the 49ers have plans to trade Lance, but that could change in the coming weeks if teams come calling.

Unfortunately, Lance hasn’t given the team much to showcase, as he hasn’t gotten any better over the course of the offseason and may end up being a bust in the NFL despite being given little time to develop.

Only time will tell what the future holds for Lance and whether he’ll actually get a shot with another team at some point.
