Analyst Colin Cowherd is never one to shy away from hot takes, and he is back in his bag heading into the 2024 NFL Draft.

The top of this upcoming draft is loaded with quarterback talent and multiple teams desperately in need of a new franchise guy, and with so much time to evaluate these prospects, we are all guilty of overanalyzing every minute trait each player has.

Cowherd isn’t sold on one particular prospect who is seeing his stock rise dramatically, as he has compared Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy to a former No. 2 pick, saying: “This is starting to feel like Zach Wilson.”

“This is starting to feel like Zach Wilson… J.J. McCarthy’s college experience is not the NFL.”

The comparison has been made by multiple analysts over the past week after McCarthy’s Pro Day, where he made a similar throw Wilson did during his Pro Day when he rolled out to the left and heaved a pass 60+ yards on a dime.

McCarthy accomplished more than Wilson did in college after winning a National Championship a few months ago, but in terms of their tools, it’s an easy comparison to make.

That is not a knock on McCarthy, as Wilson went No. 2 overall based on his tremendous arm talent and ability to navigate the pocket.

The fact that it hasn’t translated yet should not be an indictment on McCarthy.

McCarthy’s buzz now has him in the conversation for the No. 2 overall pick ahead of UNC’s Drake Maye and LSU’s Jayden Daniels.

Going No. 2 would make the Wilson comparisons even louder, but if one Pro Day throw is the thing eliciting this comparison, maybe we really do have too much time to overanalyze these guys.
