The Indianapolis Colts have made a decision about their starting quarterback, at least for their preseason opener.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, head coach Shane Steichen just announced that Anthony Richardson will get the nod to be under center, as opposed to Gardner Minshew.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Colts made the rounds for listing both Minshew and Richardson at QB1, and it doesn’t seem like they’ve made up their minds just yet.

Truth be told, Richardson is perhaps the rawest quarterback prospect in this year’s class.

He barely played in college, so getting him some snaps in the preseason will be wise to see how far along he is in his development.

His physical traits give him arguably the highest ceiling among his colleagues, as he wowed scouts throughout the whole NFL Draft process.

Then again, accuracy and decision-making play a huge role in a player’s success in this league, especially at the quarterback position, which is why he needs to get as many reps as he can handle, especially now when it doesn’t count.

We still don’t know if that means the Colts are saving Minshew for the regular season, but that would also make some sense.

He’s already been around the league for a while, and the Colts already know what he can give them.

Richardson has a sky-high ceiling, so they need to be quite careful with him, even if that means having him on the sidelines for the first half of the season while he learns the ropes of the league.
