The Indianapolis Colts are a team hoping to get back on the right track at the quarterback position, with the franchise tired of bringing in veteran players to fill the void under center every year with no success.
After Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, and Matt Ryan, the Colts have decided to go in another direction, with the team drafting promising young quarterback Anthony Richardson out of the University of Florida with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Although it was uncertain when Richardson would get his time to shine, as some believe he’s the rawest of the top-tier quarterbacks taken in this year’s draft, it appears the coaching staff likes what it sees in the 21-year-old and has named him the starter for Week 1 ahead of Gardner Minshew and Sam Ehlinger.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen recently talked about why the team named the rookie quarterback the Week 1 starter on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

It seems as though Richardson’s athletic ability was enough of an upside for the coaching staff to make the decision to go with him over a veteran like Minshew.
Steichen was blown away by that athletic ability, along with the poise he’s shown during the NFL preseason, as he described how the rookie bounced back from throwing an interception against the Buffalo Bills.
With no real expectations heading into the 2023 NFL season, and an ongoing contract dispute with running back Jonathan Taylor, Richardson will have the opportunity to show what he can do during the upcoming regular season and prove his worth as a starter.
