While anxiety fills the entire Commanders fanbase on the day of the NFL Draft as they currently sit with the No. 2 overall draft pick, they were given a nice, little present Thursday morning.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Darrell Green will get his jersey retired at a home game this upcoming season.
Green was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame back in 2008.

It is odd that it took it took the franchise 16 years to retire the jersey of one of their greatest players of all time.
From 1983 to 2002, Green was an absolute star and the definition of consistency.
He made seven Pro Bowls, four All-Pro teams and most importantly, he helped Washington win two Super Bowls.
Green recorded over 1,200 tackles and 54 career interceptions.
He is a member of the NFL’s 1990s All-Decade Team and the league’s 100th Anniversary All-Time Team.
He holds multiple NFL records, including most consecutive seasons with an interception (19) and most games played by a defensive player (295).
The safety position is one of the most physical positions in the league, so it is so impressive to know that he played two decades there.
The 1996 Walter Payton Man of the Year did everything right in his career, and that is why he is going to get his No. 28 jersey retired this season.
Green is a player that new Commanders head coach Dan Quinn should use as an example of greatness in an effort to motivate his players as they look to have a surprise season in 2024.
