The Washington Commanders are on the cusp of going through a drastic change, with the franchise finally being sold by longtime owner Daniel Snyder to Josh Harris and an ownership group that includes Magic Johnson.

Although the sale of the team will continue to dominate the headlines when talking about the Commanders, Washington does have a quarterback situation to take care of, as there could be a battle for the top spot under center during training camp.

During the offseason, the team brought in another veteran quarterback in the form of Jacoby Brissett, who may have a chance to win the job before the start of the season.

However, former first-round pick Jahan Dotson believes that Sam Howell will be the team’s starter once the season gets underway against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 on Sept. 10 via The Jim Rome Show.

The Commanders only have a small sample size of Howell, as he played in only one game in his rookie season in Washington, which resulted in a win over the division rival Dallas Cowboys, where he threw for 169 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Although Howell won his first game as a starter in Washington, it was the last game of the season and not a game the Cowboys were all that interested in winning because they had already punched their ticket to the NFL playoffs.

However, the team seems to be heading in the right direction, going with a second-year quarterback rather than bringing in another veteran with the hopes of winning right away.

Howell will be given a chance to develop, and that might ultimately be the right way to go for Ron Rivera and company.
