During the 2023 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys had one of the best defenses in the league.
The Cowboys have one of the best overall defenders in Micah Parsons who can line up just about everywhere, but the secondary behind him is what really propelled the team to the top of the defensive ranks.
Trevon Diggs is one of the most well-known defensive backs in the league because of his ball-hawking ability, but he also had a strong running mate in DaRon Bland.
Bland, a former fifth-round pick from the 2022 NFL Draft, showed his nose for the football in his rookie season after collecting a few interceptions.
However, he made a name for himself in 2023 when he led the league in several interception categories including most interceptions, most interceptions returned for touchdowns and most defensive touchdowns.
Unfortunately, Dallas will be without Bland for close to half the 2024 NFL season because he will be undergoing foot surgery via Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
“#Cowboys All-Pro CB DaRon Bland will undergo surgery for a stress fracture in his foot and is out six to eight weeks, the team said,” Pelissero reported.

Bland reported feeling discomfort in his foot during training camp and testing revealed a stress fracture.
This comes at an unfortunate time for the Cowboys who were hoping to lean on Bland this upcoming year.
Dallas’ secondary now is a big question mark as Diggs is recovering from an ACL injury and Bland is out for the foreseeable future.
It’ll be up to players like Jourdan Lewis, Andrew Booth and Caelen Carson to step up in Bland’s place.
