Last season, the Dallas Cowboys looked dominant quite often on defense, and early in the year even boasted that they would become quite possibly the greatest defensive team in NFL history.
But there were some holes, and those holes got exposed by the Green Bay Packers, who trounced Dallas 48-32 in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
Dallas lost some key players this offseason, including defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr., and also lost defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who left to become the Washington Commanders’ new head coach.
A couple of days ago, Sam Williams, another defensive end, tore his ACL and will miss all of this season.
As a result, the Cowboys plan to work out veteran pass rusher Carl Lawson, according to reporter Ari Meirov.

Lawson was a fourth-round draft choice in 2017 after an injury-riddled tenure at Auburn University and spent his first four pro seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.
As a rookie, he had 8.5 sacks, 21 quarterback hits and eight tackles for loss.
He played for the New York Jets the past two seasons after missing all of the 2021 campaign with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Lawson was limited to six games in 2023 and didn’t have a single sack or tackle for loss.
Shortly after Williams suffered his injury, Lawson tweeted an image of a star on social media, which some interpreted as him auditioning for a spot on the Cowboys.

The Cowboys don’t have a lot of money to spend, as pass rusher Micah Parsons, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott are all due for lucrative contract extensions.
