The Dallas Cowboys have had a suspiciously quiet offseason with much of the attention being focused on what they didn’t do as opposed to what they did do, namely opting not to give any of their best players the contract extensions they haven’t been shy about wanting.

Nothing spices up a quiet offseason quite like an allergic reaction, which is what one player unfortunately is dealing with to put his status for Saturday’s preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders in jeopardy.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo shared on X that defensive tackle Mazi Smith suffered an allergic reaction at training camp on Friday that resulted in him not being able to travel with the team to Las Vegas.

Smith will be receiving treatment on Saturday morning and will be reevaluated to determine his game status prior to kickoff.

The Cowboys selected Smith in the first round in last year’s draft and will be counting on him to step into a much more prominent role this year after losing Dorance Armstrong and Johnathan Hankins in free agency.

Smith posted just 13 tackles last season and one sack while seeing action in all 17 games, but he is now a projected starter and should improve dramatically upon last year’s output.

It’s unclear what sort of allergic reaction Smith suffered, but it doesn’t appear to be anything major that will impact him long-term.
