The Dallas Cowboys made a big move last season after they traded for former first-round pick Trey Lance.
The former two-time FCS champion was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers with the No. 3 overall pick in 2021.
After two seasons of slow development and health concerns, along with the emergence of Brock Purdy, Lance was traded to the Cowboys for a fourth-round pick.
According to The Athletic’s Jon Machota, the Cowboys are very “excited” about his development.
Dallas sees Lance as a “super coachable” player and a “really good athlete.”

“Obviously Trey is a really good athlete, and the most important thing is his arm. He’s got a very live arm, very strong arm. He continues to improve with his footwork and his accuracy.” https://t.co/P4dQDbhtFk

Perhaps he is the quarterback of the future in Dallas with current starter Dak Prescott entering the final year of his deal.
Lance has always had great physical characteristics.
He stands at 6-4 and weighs 225 pounds.
His arm strength and ability to run the football is what attracted the 49ers to him because that is something that former starter Jimmy Garoppolo couldn’t come close to doing.
However, what hurt Lance’s time with the 49ers is that he didn’t play very much in college (19 games in three years), and his injury woes slowed his growth.
He was named the starter in San Francisco at the beginning of 2022, but a season-ending ankle injury cost him greatly.
After getting traded to Dallas, Lance has had the opportunity to develop behind the scenes without there being much pressure on him.
Also, he has gotten to learn from a quarterback whisperer in head coach Mike McCarthy, who has coached Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, and now an MVP candidate in Prescott.
Look for Lance to get a real opportunity very soon to prove himself in Dallas.
