The Philadelphia Phillies were lucky to pick up closer Craig Kimbrel on the cheap this offseason.

He has stepped in and done a great job when called upon in the closer role.

Kimbrel is 14-14 in save opportunities this year and continues to break major milestones.

Earlier in the season he reached 400 career saves.

Then in the All-Star Game, Kimbrel recorded his first-ever save in the Midsummer classic.

The 35-year-old talked after the game about how his teammates have supported him all season.

Despite being his first season with the Phillies, he is a well-respected player.

No matter where Kimbrel has pitched he has always been an effective closer.

Plus, he is an easy guy to root for.

Now as the Phillies get set for the second half they will need another big half from their bullpen.

Winning the NL East is almost out of the picture but the Phillies are only a half-game out of a Wild Card berth.

Last season they used the Wild Card to make it to the World Series.

The hope is that they can do that again.

Kimbrel brings playoff and World Series experience with him, as he won the 2018 World Series with the Boston Red Sox.

He and the rest of the Phillies bullpen will be counted on to close out many key games down the stretch.

With how jumbled the NL Wild Card standings are, any game could make or break a team’s season.
