The Chicago Cubs have been without veteran right-hander Marcus Stroman lately, who has been on the injured list as a result of right hip inflammation.

He was originally set to come off the 15-day injured list today and make a start against the Cubs’ crosstown rivals in the Chicago White Sox.

However, on Tuesday, another issue popped up for the veteran ace.

According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, Stroman is now dealing with right rib discomfort.

On Tuesday, Rogers announced over Twitter that this would ultimately keep Stroman from making his return today against the White Sox, resulting in him staying on the injured list.

Marcus Stroman, who was set to come off the IL and pitch tomorrow for the Cubs, has right rib discomfort, so he will not face the White Sox on Wednesday.

This is bad news for the Cubs.

Stroman has already been on the injured list twice this season.

His first stint came after a tough start in London against the St. Louis Cardinals.

After that game, the Cubs placed their ace on the injured list with a blister issue.

He made his way back, but began to struggle in his starts.

In his last seven starts, he is 1-4 with a 9.00 ERA, having allowed 42 hits and 30 earned runs over those games.

The Cubs are right in the thick of the postseason chase.

They’re not far behind the Miami Marlins for the third and final Wild Card spot, and are also close to the Milwaukee Brewers, who currently lead the NL Central.

Ultimately, the Cubs can only hope that this is a minor setback and that Stroman will be able to make his return from the injured list soon.
