It has been an uncomfortable and uncertain offseason for the Dallas Cowboys after yet another early playoff exit, and owner Jerry Jones has now positioned the franchise to head into a season where both head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Dak Prescott are in contract years.

We have finally heard some sort of update about the situation, with a new report detailing where the Cowboys and Dak stand on a potential contract extension.

Dallas Morning News’ Michael Gehlken shared that Prescott said while contract negotiations have not begun, he met with Jerry Jones a few weeks ago to discuss the situation and that he doesn’t necessarily want to be the league’s highest-paid QB, but wants to put the team in the best situation possible.

That’s the right thing to say to convince your owner to give you a bag.

This shows good self-awareness by Prescott, as it’s the classy and professional response to give when asked about this type of subject.

Prescott doesn’t have much of a leg to stand on to ask to be the league’s highest-paid QB, and even if he winds up being paid as a top-5 QB, it’s still an extraordinary amount of money.

This is the first we have heard of an extension being on the table, so it’s a great sign that things are beginning to head towards a resolution.

Prescott is coming off a career year, but unfortunately, most fans will only remember the playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers.

By the way Prescott addressed this topic, he knows that this team needs to start winning playoff games if he wants to be the highest-paid QB.
