There was a lot of talk about the game vs. the San Francisco 49ers being the Dallas Cowboys’ only chance to prove that they’re for real.
If that’s the case, then it’s going to be almost impossible to turn the narrative around after Sunday night’s embarrassing loss.
As a matter of fact, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott even admitted it was perhaps the ‘most humbling’ loss of his career, stating that he didn’t even see it coming, and that they beat them in every aspect of the game (via Nick Harris).

Granted that there should be no shame in losing to an elite team like the Niners, or even being blown out by them, but that’s simply something the Cowboys couldn’t afford.
They could’ve left the Bay area feeling quite good about themselves with a narrow loss, but Sunday’s loss was a massive blow to team morale.
The Niners have completely dominated them as of late, and now that they have Brock Purdy pulling the strings of the offense and Christian McCaffrey dominating out of the backfield, it was their most lopsided loss in recent times.
Simply put, there’s no way this Cowboys team realistically feels like they can take the Niners down in the playoffs.
They have the personnel to at least make it interesting, but it’s more than evident that the Niners have gotten into their heads.
It’s going to be tough to get back on their feet after this.
At least, they’ll have a long week to prepare for their game vs. former OC Kellen Moore and the Los Angeles Chargers.
