The Dallas Cowboys haven’t been to the NFC Championship Game for 27 years now.
Their season came to another heartbreaking end in 2022 when they couldn’t get past the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.
And even though they did win a playoff game, it was against a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that stumbled their way into the postseason, so Dak Prescott knows that may not be anything to brag about.
When talking about last season, the Cowboys quarterback admitted he wasn’t good enough down the stretch, which is why he felt like he needed to take some time off:
“The end of the season was tough, for sure,” Prescott said, per NFL.com. “And I took a break off at the end of the season … just everything that you put into a season, and then obviously it turned out the way it did. It was a different season for me personally, so yeah, took the time off but then got back at it.”

Now, with Prescott and the Cowboys back in business to get ready for the upcoming season, the talented QB admits it was a different feeling at first with all the coaching changes.
Brian Schottenheimer will serve as Mike McCarthy’s Offensive Coordinator, although the HC will be the one calling the plays:
“I’m not going to lie to you, it was tough going in Day 1. Not just because of Zeke, but a bunch of coaching changes,” Dak told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I can’t say it was tough, it was interesting. ‘How’s this going to feel? What’s this going to be like?’ When I left, it was amazing, honestly. It was change, but it was a sense of positive change and excitement for me. I’m an optimistic guy and always have been — you guys know that. I guess going into there, I couldn’t tell if the glass was half-full or half-empty. And then I leave, it was definitely half full. I’m excited about the direction we’re going. But it was tough.”
More than that, this will be the first time in his career that he doesn’t play with Ezekiel Elliott, who was recently released by the team.
The Cowboys claimed that they didn’t want to disrespect Elliott with another contract offer, and there hasn’t been a lot of interest in his services thus far.
Zeke and Prescott have been working out together, and he claimed that the team would welcome him with open arms if the opportunity came.
Nonetheless, it seems unlikely that the Cowboys — or any other team will sign him before the NFL Draft — especially given how poorly he performed toward the end of the season in 2023.
