The NFL is a cruel and ruthless business, especially when it comes to running backs.

Despite still being one of the most important positions in the game, they’re just not valued as such.

Teams usually prefer to let aging stars walk away in free agency, and they start over with a cheaper and younger player taken in the NFL Draft.

Wash, rinse, and repeat.

Notably, that has left a former star like Dalvin Cook hanging, but he’s not ready to call it quits yet.

Recently, the former Minnesota Vikings back sent the rest of the league a message, letting everybody know that he’s still got plenty left in the tank and that he’s going to stay ready for when the opportunity comes (via Aaron Wilson).

Cook is currently living in Houston, and the Dallas Cowboys could use some help out of the backfield.

He spent last season with the New York Jets but barely played and was eventually released, later signing with the Baltimore Ravens.

The crazy part about his career is that he was wreaking havoc with the Minnesota Vikings not so long ago, and it seemed like he still had plenty of juice.

But if no one has shown a legitimate interest in his services at this point in the offseason, it seems like he could be looking at signing a deal closer to training camp, or perhaps if there’s a last-minute injury.

Hopefully, he’ll get an opportunity to walk away from the game on his own terms.
