Damian Lillard has been very open about the difficulty surrounding his move from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Milwaukee Bucks.
He spoke about this on the latest episode of the “Club 520” podcast, where he said the change was more difficult than he expected.
Not only did Lillard have to leave Portland, saying goodbye to friends and family, but he also needed to adjust to playing alongside such accomplished players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton.
Lillard revealed that it took him some time to figure out how he fit with the Bucks.
Fans were expecting very big things when Lillard joined the Bucks last summer.
Some thought he would be a ticket to the Finals and would instantly make them the best team in the Eastern Conference.
Instead, the Bucks continued to struggle and got a new head coach halfway through the season.
Then both Antetokounmpo and Lillard were injured when the playoffs began, which did great damage to the team’s chances.
This was definitely a very difficult season for both Lillard and the Bucks, but there are hopes that the new year will be better.
After a season together, this team could be more cohesive in 2024-25.
Head coach Doc Rivers has had more time to work out his plans, the players have learned to work with each other more, and things should look stronger.
Lillard needed to adjust to his new team, his new players, and his new surroundings.
If that adjustment period is finally finished, the Bucks could be much more competitive in the months ahead.
