Damian Lillard admittedly grew up watching the Golden State Warriors play.
And even though most people deem Stephen Curry the greatest shooter of all time — and rightfully so — Lillard is not that far off.
As a matter of fact, he’s perhaps the only player that could go toe-to-toe with him when it comes to knocking down 35+ footers.
Notably, there was a chance they could’ve been on the same team this season, but that’s no longer the case.
According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, via NBACentral, Dame reportedly had an interest in playing for the Warriors before they traded for Chris Paul.

“They could have waited for Dame. Dame is from the Bay Area. I know he was interested…If he was going to ask for a trade…the Warriors would have been on that list.”… pic.twitter.com/eCiJ9tHYM9

Perhaps they could’ve worked something out, and had a trade package around Jordan Poole, but that possibility is obviously no longer on the table.
Needless to say, that would’ve taken a big toll on Lillard’s reputation, that’s for sure.
Every player who decides to team up with another superstar gets plenty of criticism, especially if he decides to join the most dominant team of the past decade.
Then again, from a basketball perspective, it would’ve been a treat to watch.
It’s going to be interesting to see how Chris Paul fits with that team, as well as whether he’ll start or come off the bench, and Lillard would’ve been a more seamless fit.
He now only wants to play for the Miami Heat, but they’re going to have a tough time putting together a suitable trade package for him.
Just imagine what could’ve been had this happened.
The league would’ve been in shambles.
