The Damian Lillard sweepstakes has the NBA in shambles right now.
Everybody’s keeping tabs on the All-Star guard, who’s reportedly considering moving on from the Portland Trail Blazers once and for all.
Moreover, Sam Amick (via NBA Central) reports that Lillard has some serious interest in playing for the Miami Heat next season, adding that his desire to play there would play a huge role in the Blazers’ decision — and ability — to move him there.
Damian Lillard has ‘serious interest’ in joining the Miami Heat, per @sam_amick
“Lillard indeed has serious interest in joining the Heat, who would surely love to pair him with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. If it reaches this point — and there’s still an ‘if’ here considering… pic.twitter.com/0yufPFJwat

Notably, Lillard had already chosen the Heat as his preferred destination if he were to be traded by the Blazers, adding that he’s quite close with Bam Adebayo.
He’d be a seamless fit next to him and Jimmy Butler, especially considering the fact that they’re both hard-nosed competitors who work around the clock and two proven and bonafide leaders.
The Heat don’t have that many assets to pull off a big blockbuster trade, but it’s not like there are many teams that could afford to absorb Damian Lillard’s contract right now.
Also, Lillard has stayed with the Blazers through thick and thin, leading them to the playoffs in seven out of ten seasons, so they should do right by him and allow him to play for the team he wants to play with.
It would be hard to blame Lillard for finally realizing that it’s time to move on and play for a team that could actually contend for a championship, even if he’s talked so much about being loyal and staying there through his entire career and whatnot.
