After acquiring superstar guard Damian Lillard during the NBA offseason, the Milwaukee Bucks thrust themselves back into the title-contending conversation in the Eastern Conference with the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers.
However, the team replaced longtime head coach Mike Budenholzer with first-time head coach Adrian Griffin, which didn’t seem to be a popular move at the time, especially after Terry Stotts suddenly and without explanation decided to leave the team.
Even though the team is in second place in the Eastern Conference and seemingly firing on all cylinders, the Bucks brass chose to part ways with Griffin recently, which paved the way for the team to hire Doc Rivers.
On Monday, Rivers will make his debut as the new head coach of the Bucks, with Lillard commenting on what he’s seen from his new leader on the sideline after their first shootaround together ahead of the matchup with the Denver Nuggets via Bally Sports Wisconsin.
“It was good,” Lillard said. “We had a lot of things to clear up. Went over some defensive stuff and some offensive stuff just to do things just a little bit different. I thought it was good, though. It was really good.”

Griffin’s dismissal with the team playing as well as they have this season was a strange move, to say the least. It could derail the season if Rivers turns out not to be the right man for the job.
However, Rivers is as experienced as they come and knows what it takes to win a championship as a head coach, so the team is likely in good hands moving forward.
