Damian Lillard has learned a thing or two about adversity during his time with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Even though he’s consistently been one of the best point guards in the league, Lillard’s team has repeatedly fallen short of their goals.
Speaking with Our Generation Sports, Lillard talked about what keeps him going and separates him from others when tough times come his way.
Lillard said:
“I think for all of us we have things we know we want to accomplish for ourselves. A lot of times when it gets hard and when it seems like it’s getting further away and you’re not getting to where you want to get to, some people just fold. They just give up”
He then added: “Even if it don’t get me nothing in return, it’s like a level of fulfillment that I’ll get.”

Essentially, Lillard said that he has to overcome and achieve no matter what is going on.
His goal isn’t necessarily winning, but it is pushing himself through obstacles.
And he has to do it for himself, not for others.
Lillard points out that he finds success because he is sticking to his goals and fighting hard on his behalf and for what he wants.
He isn’t holding himself to other people’s wishes or standards.
This explains why he remained with the Blazers for years even when countless people questioned why he would stick with a losing team.
But it also sheds light on why he is finally giving up on the team and asking to be traded.
This is part of the path he sees for himself.
Lillard has always been a very determined and dedicated player.
Many comments have been made about his loyalty to the team.
But this interview shows that, above all else, Lillard is most loyal to the vision he has for himself and that is what helps him get through hard times.
