The Mike Budenholzer era is over for the Milwaukee Bucks.

It’s not every day that a team lets their championship-winning coach go just a couple of seasons after winning the title, but that’s just how things go in this business.

However, that doesn’t make it right, which is why Damian Lillard took to Twitter to call them out for this decision.

Folks out here firing championship coaches as soon as they don’t win the chip …

Budenholzer was a professional through a personal tragedy, and the Bucks were perennial contenders under his tutelage, so maybe this was a bit of a surprise.

Nonetheless, one could also make a point about this being the right decision.

Personal situations aside, the Bucks underperformed multiple times in the playoffs under Coach Bud.

He refused to adapt and tweak his rotations or play his starters more minutes in the postseason, not to mention the fact that he rarely made any sort of in-game or in-series adjustments.

Coach Bud stood pat while Jimmy Butler put up 90+ points on Jrue Holiday over a two-game span, even when he had a former Defensive Player of the Year back on the floor.

Even Giannis Antetokounmpo publicly admitted that he was frustrated by the blatant lack of obvious adjustments, such as at least trying to guard Butler with another player or trying to double-team him.

There’s no denying that Budenholzer is an elite regular-season coach, and he’s earned his stripes and flowers in this league.

But all good things come to an end, and it seems like he had already overstayed his welcome in Wisconsin; it happens.
