The Detroit Lions are trying to turn their franchise’s culture around.
And there aren’t many people that could do a better job of mentoring and inspiring the players than the great Barry Sanders, one of the single greatest players in the history of the game.
That’s why Lions HC Dan Campbell had no choice but to tip his hat off to the legendary running back, praising him as one of the most humble human beings he’s ever been around and thanking him for showing up to training camp, per the team’s Twitter account.
Notably, the Lions are set to honor Sanders by unveiling a statue of him at Ford Field during their home opener.
“He is one of the most humble guys you could ever be around.”

Sanders claimed it was a tremendous honor to have his very own statue with the franchise he gave so much to.
This is an exciting time to be a Lions fan, which hasn’t happened very often in their history.
Oddsmakers believe they’re set to put an end to their divisional title drought that goes back almost three decades, as they’re currently favored to take home the NFC North crown.
Despite not making the playoffs last season, the Lions were one of the most improved teams in the league in 2022, and they figure to continue that same trend in the following campaign.
And while Sanders won’t be breaking tackles out of the backfield and piling up yards left and right as he used to do in his heyday, his presence there should do a lot to inspire the young guys to carry the torch and be at their best on the field.
