Dan Hurley was offered one of the most prestigious jobs in the NBA but he decided to pass on leading the Los Angeles Lakers.
During the negotiation process to possibly become the team’s new head coach, Hurley had multiple conversations with the front office and certain players on the team.
One of those players was LeBron James, who had a few text message exchanges with Hurley.
Speaking to Colin Cowherd on “The Herd,” Hurley revealed that James texted him, spoke about basketball, and offered his support if he decided to come to Los Angeles.
And even after Hurley chose to stick with UConn, James continued to text him.

Hurley said his mind was blown when he received a text from James and it sounds like the conversation was very friendly and supportive.
Although he didn’t get into details, Hurley and James likely talked about what next season would look like under new leadership.
The Lakers want to become competitive again and wish to win one more championship before James retires so these two probably spoke about how to make that possible.
In the end, Hurley decided that he wanted to remain in Connecticut.
That’s not surprising because he has done so much with UConn, winning back-to-back championships with a chance for a third.
The Lakers’ proposed contract seemed lacking to many, which also may have played a part in Hurley rejecting the job offer.
For a number of reasons, he didn’t feel the job was right for him.
Now the Lakers are moving on and James may be picking up his phone to text another candidate in the days ahead.
