In just a matter of days, UConn head coach Dan Hurley could have a brand new job: leading the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Lakers are reportedly keen on signing Hurley to a massive deal, meaning he’d have to leave the world of college basketball behind.
Speaking with Dan Patrick, UConn women’s head coach Geno Auriemma said he actually spoke to Hurley on Wednesday night about him potentially working for the Lakers.
“I think you could win a lot of championships with the Lakers, more so than a guy who’s never coached,” Auriemma said, although he was unaware that Hurley was wanted by the Lakers.
Geno Aurriemma shares his reaction to the Danny Hurley reports and says he was actually with him last night and randomly said to him:

That is quite the coincidence but it proves that Auriemma really thinks Hurley could be a great pick for Los Angeles.
There is a good reason for that: he’s been a wonderful coach for UConn and helped them win back-to-back championships.
Winning two NCAA tournaments in a row is incredibly hard and it’s a sign of just how talented Hurley is.
Auriemma mentioned that Hurley could win more titles for the Lakers than someone who has never coached before.
That seems to be a slight dig at other candidates for the LA job, such as JJ Redick.
Hurley has plenty of experience leading a team and helping them win in big ways, even though he hasn’t been in the NBA.
That should be the reason he’s picked by the Lakers, according to Auriemma.
Auriemma has a strong opinion about this friend and thinks he could be key to long-term success for the Lakers.
Apparently the team’s front office feels the same way.
