Ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, there was a lot of speculation about who the Washington Commanders would select with the No. 2 overall pick, even though it was guaranteed to be one of the many talented quarterbacks in this draft class.
Eventually, it came down to Drake Maye out of the University of North Carolina and Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels out of LSU, with the expectation being that the Chicago Bears would bring in USC superstar Caleb Williams with the top pick in the draft.
Ultimately, the Commanders decided that Daniels was the better prospect in comparison to Maye and brought him in with the No. 2 overall pick, which may turn out to be the right decision with him being as talented as they come.
With Daniels now in the fold in the nation’s capital, new Commanders head coach Dan Quinn spoke about why the team chose to take the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, and it all comes down to his competitiveness, via SiriusXM NFL Radio.
“This is a rare competitor,” Quinn said.

Much like last season in the NFL, there will be plenty of rookie quarterbacks to keep an eye on during the 2024 campaign, with Daniels being among the most intriguing, as he’ll likely be a Week 1 starter unless the team decides to go with veteran Marcus Mariota right out of the gate.
The major question mark for Daniels is the fact he loves to run and is undersized with no fear of taking a brutal hit, which will be taken to another level on the NFL level, and health could become a concern.
