One of the bigger trades in the NFL ahead of the start of the regular season came recently when the Washington Commanders decided to send wide receiver Jahan Dotson to the rival Philadelphia Eagles.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn was asked why the team decided to move on from the former first-round pick.
“We thought this was a deep and strong group. … Here was an opportunity to go and help the team,” Quinn said, via Ben Standig of The Athletic.

It is interesting that Quinn feels that getting rid of Dotson can help the team.
Washington did get back a third-round pick and multiple seventh-round picks in exchange for the former Penn State star and a fifth-round pick.
Dotson didn’t exactly live up to his draft status in two years with Washington. He did not top 525 receiving yards or grab more than 50 receptions in either season.
The fact he was not drafted by the current regime possibly played a role in the trade as well.
Now, he will be the No. 3 or No. 4 wide receiver in Philadelphia behind stars A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
Looking at the Commanders’ current wide receiver depth chart, Pro Bowler Terry McLaurin leads the way with veterans Olamide Zaccheaus, Jamison Crowder, Byron Pringle, Martavis Bryant and Dyami Brown following him.
With rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels now Washington’s starter, he and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury can get to work on building a rapport with the current wide receiver group in place.
