The Washington Commanders made the move to draft former Heisman winner Jayden Daniels out of LSU with the No. 2 overall draft pick in April.
With veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota also on the roster, it is unclear who the official starter is heading into training camp.
Head coach Dan Quinn recently spoke in front of the D.C. media about the plan for Daniels moving forward as he continues to become better acclimated to the NFL game.
“It is a journey and a process…When he’s ready, we’ll know. And when he’s ready, he’ll also know,” Quinn stated.

Quinn also noted that there could be certain days where one quarterback is featured more than the other.
It is clear that Daniels was drafted to be the quarterback of the future.
In his Heisman-winning campaign last season in Baton Rouge, Daniels recorded almost 5,000 scrimmage yards and 50 total touchdowns.
He is lightning in a bottle and has the chance to help turn the fortunes of the franchise around in the future.
However, Mariota, another former Heisman winner, is entering his 10th NFL season and has experience taking a team to the playoffs.
It would not be a surprise at all if Washington started out with Mariota as the starter before handing the reins over to Daniels.
After all, unless Mariota does something miraculous, he is simply a placeholder.
This quarterback battle is an intriguing one that could end up making Daniels a lot better just in time for his first start whenever that comes down the road.
