The Los Angeles Lakers have had their fair share of legendary players in their ranks, and some guys have been lucky enough to share the locker room with plenty of them.
That’s the case with D’Angelo Russell, who joined the team with high hopes and expectations.
The Lakers hoped he’d carry the torch in the post-Kobe Bryant era, and that obviously wasn’t the case due to countless reasons.
But Russell was able to go back to Los Angeles later in his career, this time joining a LeBron James-led squad.
With that in mind, the former No. 2 pick talked with Patrick Beverley about the differences between Kobe and James.

Per Russell, James is way more social and is always looking to get involved and talk with everybody.
He’s still writing his story, so he still has that drive and motivation to win now.
Kobe, on the other hand, mostly kept to himself.
Russell claims he rarely talked to other people, if ever, and he was locked in with his side projects.
He also understands that Kobe had already made up his mind about retirement, adding that most of the players on the team were on one-year deals, so the feel in the locker room was just different.
Kobe, per Russell, had that aura that made everybody around him just get quiet when he entered the room, which was weird to Kobe, but he still embraced it.
At the end of the day, they’re both great in their own way.
