Cam Reddish’s NBA career hasn’t been anything like advertised.
Once considered an elite prospect in high school, Reddish was often out of favor in Duke’s offensive juggernaut of himself alongside RJ Barrett and Zion Williamson.
His subpar efficiency in college didn’t scare scouts away; they thought it was a byproduct of sharing touches with a couple of ball-dominant scorers, and they hoped he would break out in the pros.
Needless to say, that hasn’t been the case thus far, and even though he has shown glimpses of outstanding two-way play, he’s failed to establish himself in the league.
Notably, that might change this year once and for all, as Los Angeles Lakers veteran D’Angelo Russell recently showered him with praise for how comfortable he looks in Darvin Ham’s system (via Lauren Jones).
D’Angelo Russell on Cam Reddish: “I mean, he looks comfortable cams a guy he just needs a little push to see what he’s capable of. With a group of guys that we have in this locker room, I think it will continue to help him sustain what he’s working on.” #LakeShow pic.twitter.com/ABTciQUUMp

More than that, Russell talked about the importance of having a group of supportive veterans around him, and that could do wonders for his development.
Reddish is just 24 years old, and he has all the talent in the world.
The Lakers’ player development staff has done an outstanding job with plenty of young guys over the past couple of years, and he could be brought slowly into the rotation.
He won’t be asked or needed to do a lot of heavy lifting early on.
But if they manage to bring the best out of him, he could turn out to be the X-factor they craved last season when Anthony Davis and LeBron James seemed gassed out late in games.
