D’Angelo Russell Wants To Emulate Celtics Player On Defense

D’Angelo Russell has earned his spot as the starting point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers this season.

During his first few preseason games, Russell has looked very good and committed to shooting well and also finding his fellow teammates on the court.

Despite his strong output, Russell wants to keep getting better with the defensive aspect of his game.

“My inspiration has been Derrick White,” Russell said according to Ryan Ward, via NBACentral.

“[White] doesn’t get a lot of credit for what he does. Makes all the winning plays. That’s what I want to be,” Russell added.

White has become an important part of the Boston Celtics over the last couple of seasons.

Last year, he produced 12.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game.

He shot at 46.2% from the floor and was also a great defensive asset for the team.

He is the type of guard who is not just helpful with his shot selection and assists, but also his ability to defend players, even those much larger than him.

If Russell aspires to be like any other guard in the league, White is a great choice.

Russell has a long season ahead of him, but it’s one when he could prove a lot about himself.

His return to the Lakers last season saw Russell recording 17.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists.

He had his fair share of issues in the playoffs but it looks like he has been working very hard in the summer and preparing to become more of a leader for the team.

Russell has his own set of goals and is ready to reach them.
