The Chicago Bears beat the Washington Commanders 40-20 on Thursday Night Football, a blowout that wasn’t expected.

The Commanders were favored by 6.5 points in this game, but it was the Bears who looked like they were the favorites throughout.

One of the major reasons for this blowout victory was the connection of Justin Fields to D.J. Moore, as Moore had three touchdown receptions.

As a result of Moore’s big night, 2023 first-round rookie cornerback Emmanuel Forbes was benched.

While his benching might have been a kick in the gut for Forbes, an NFC East rival, Darius Slay provided some encouragement.

In a postgame tweet, Slay told Forbes to “keep your head up,” as he was benched in consecutive games during his rookie year.

Keep your head up Forbes I was bench back to back games my rookie yr. Keep working u go be great!

Slay is now seen as one of the best veteran corners in the NFL.

This unprompted encouragement should go a long way for Forbes moving forward as he grows and develops his game.

The NFL can be a difficult league for rookies, as they are coming straight out of college.

Game speed in the NFL is drastically different than it is in college.

Sometimes, it takes a while for rookies to catch up and establish their footing in the league.

Forbes played at Mississippi State for three seasons, and he knows a thing or two about guarding big-time players.

Hopefully, he will use this game as a jumping-off point for the rest of the season, not allowing another receiver to have a big game.

With a 40-yard dash time under 4.4 seconds, Forbes should be given plenty of future opportunities on this defense.
