The Philadelphia Eagles knew Jalen Hurts was due for a massive contract extension.
He was set to enter the final year of his deal, and he was making almost nothing on his rookie contract.
That is no longer the case as the two sides agreed to a deal making Hurts the highest-paid player in NFL history.
The deal is for five years and pays Hurts a total of $255 million.
After the season Hurts just had, it is not a surprise to see the Eagles open their checkbooks.
Eagles cornerback Darius Slay was thrilled to see his quarterback land this massive deal.
Love it… fam deserves it!! https://t.co/B7s9N6fe2M

It will be very interesting to see what Hurts does for an encore in 2023.
He will no longer be able to sneak up on the league, and opposing defenses will be centering their game plans around him.
There are a handful of other quarterbacks who are happy to see this deal get done.
One has to be Lamar Jackson, who is still waiting for his contract extension.
He has a strong argument to ask for more money than Hurts given he has won an MVP award.
Also, Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert are quite excited to see Hurts land this deal as well.
The fully-guaranteed contract that Deshaun Watson landed is now a thing of the past.
Hurts’ deal is not fully guaranteed, and the odds of seeing another deal like that are slim.
This monumental deal will change the quarterback market forever.
