Former tight end Darren Waller recently retired from the NFL this offseason after eight seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, and New York Giants at 31 years old and just one year into a 3-year, $51 million extension.
In a recent media appearance, Waller revealed what he will miss most about playing in the NFL.
Waller recently appeared on his former teammate Maxx Crosby’s podcast, The Rush, and said that the thing he’ll miss the most is “going through so many difficult things” such as workouts and meetings before finally going out there with the guys and seeing things pay off, and said he’ll miss the “shared emotion” of that experience.

It’s a unique take and surely something that is impossible to be replicated in another line of work.
Waller was traded to the Giants prior to last season and posted just 552 yards and one touchdown in 12 games, and over the last three years, he saw his production take a dip as the injuries started to pile up.
He played all 16 games in 2019 and 2020 and posted 90 and 107 receptions while going well over 1,100 receiving yards each year.
In recent interviews, Waller revealed that his passion for the game had been slowly fading and that the injury scares started to become too much to deal with and he’d be doing his teammates a disservice if he wasn’t all the way in.
He may have hung up his cleats earlier than most expected, but Waller appears to be happy in his interview with Crosby.
