The Los Angeles Lakers have officially announced their captains for the 2023-2024 NBA Season.

In a move that was not surprising to many, LeBron James was named one of the captains.

As a longtime NBA veteran, and the league’s leader in all-time points, James seemed to be a lock for captaincy.

Anthony Davis was selected as the team’s second captain, pairing him with James in that role.

Head coach Darvin Ham recently revealed the reason for these selections in a press conference shared via Spectrum SportsNet.

Ham said that Davis and James are “Guys that come out and try to play the right way.”

The Lakers’ two newest captains have 31 years of combined NBA experience.

They have an on-court chemistry when they play together, and their leadership abilities should help guide the rest of their teammates.

Outside of Davis and James, the Lakers have a relatively young team.

Jalen Hood-Schifino, for instance, is 20 years old.

He has received significant praise throughout the offseason and is a player who can benefit from their shared leadership.

The same can be said for Jaxson Hayes, Cam Reddish, and Jarred Vanderbilt as well.

All three of those players are under the age of 25 and are looking for additional guidance.

They all have some NBA experience, and while they have played well at times, are looking to take their game to the next level.

Having Davis and James push them will go a long way in developing these young players who are hopefully the future of the organization.
