Carolina Panthers fans should be excited about their coach.
Dave Canales has earned a reputation for being a bit of a quarterback’s whisperer, someone who can help struggling gunslingers find their footing and do what they do best.
That’s exactly what he wants to do with Bryce Young, who’s coming off a vastly disappointing season as the No. 1 pick.
Talking to the media, Canales vowed to become what Young is great at so he can play his role within the offense and not have to carry all those unrealistic expectations on his shoulders (Via Joe Person).
“We are going to become what Bryce (Young) is great at,” Canales said.

Young was an elite pocket passer and decision-maker in Alabama, but we only saw glimpses of that in his first campaign in the league.
The Panthers’ makeshift offensive line didn’t give him any sort of time or space to operate, up to the point where he was sacked 62 times in 16 games.
He looked out of sorts later in the season, as if his confidence had taken a big hit after all those struggles.
But Canales knows a thing or two about maximizing struggling quarterbacks, as he already did that with Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield during his days with the Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, respectively.
Young’s size — or lack thereof — was always a big talking point, but his football IQ and traits were never put into question.
Hopefully, last season’s struggles were just a building block and growing pains, and he’ll be able to fulfill his potential under a new coach.
